Gynecological procedures can, depending on the indication, be performed either with classical surgical methods (laparotomy – open surgery with an incision in the skin) or with more modern techniques of minimally invasive surgery, such as laparoscopy (through small separate incisions) and hysteroscopy.

They include a wide range of surgeries, such as total hysterectomy, ovarian surgery, myomectomies, treatment of gynecological cancer, endometriosis, and ectopic pregnancy.

Special mention should also be made of a specific category of gynecological surgeries: vaginal surgeries. Vaginal gynecological surgery refers to procedures that need to be performed in cases of uterine prolapse, cystocele or rectocele, relaxation of the vaginal walls, and weakening of the perineal support mechanism in general. These procedures concern women who have either never given birth, have given birth to many children, or have delivered large babies.
