This is an imaging examination used to assess the anatomy of the internal reproductive organs. Using ultrasound, the gynecologist is able to evaluate the size, structure, and morphology of the uterus and ovaries.

Abnormalities that can be detected through this examination include endometrial hypertrophy, fibroids, polyps, ovarian cysts, and fluid accumulation in the fallopian tubes (hydrosalpinges).

The cyclical development of the ovarian follicles and the endometrium can be accurately monitored throughout the different phases of the menstrual cycle, providing useful information regarding the potential response to medical treatments.

The examination can be performed on any day of the cycle, even during menstruation, if deemed necessary. It should be done at least once a year as part of the routine annual gynecological check-up.

Pregnancy can be monitored from its early stages, and complications such as miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy can be diagnosed in time.

The ultrasound can be performed either transabdominally or transvaginally, depending on the case.
